Important Information

CE Disclosures

  • Continuing Education only: These courses are not a state-approved refresher program.
  • Arizona CE attestation: Arizona uses CE attestation. You are generally not required to upload CE certificates to AZDHS during renewal.
  • Audit readiness: Keep CE transcripts/certificates for at least 3 years in case of audit.
  • Separate certifications: CPR, ACLS, and PALS certifications are maintained separately and do not count as CE hours.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Arizona CE and NREMT CE?
Arizona CE is for state license renewal (24 hours EMT, 48 hours Paramedic). NREMT CE is for National Registry recertification (40 hours EMT, 60 hours Paramedic) and requires CAPCE-approved courses for the National Component.
What is CAPCE and why does it matter?
CAPCE (Commission on Accreditation for Pre-Hospital Continuing Education) is the accrediting body for EMS continuing education. NREMT requires CAPCE-approved courses for the National Component of recertification.
Do CAPCE courses automatically report to NREMT?
Yes. Our CAPCE-approved courses automatically report your completed hours to NREMT. You can verify your hours in your NREMT account within 5-7 business days of course completion.
Can CAPCE courses count for both NREMT and Arizona CE?
In many cases, yes. CAPCE-approved courses often satisfy both NREMT National Component and state CE requirements. However, always verify with AZDHS for specific category requirements.
How many CE hours do EMTs need vs. Paramedics?
For Arizona: EMTs need 24 hours, Paramedics need 48 hours. For NREMT: EMTs need 40 hours (20 CAPCE + 20 local), Paramedics need 60 hours (40 CAPCE + 20 local).
Do I need to upload my CE to AZDHS?
Arizona typically uses CE attestation rather than uploading CE certificates at renewal. However, you must retain your CE documentation for at least 3 years in case of audit.
What is the Individual/Local Component for NREMT?
The Individual/Local Component (20 hours for both EMT and Paramedic) can be completed through state-approved CE, skills verification, department training, or other NREMT-accepted activities.
Do these CE courses replace ACLS or CPR?
No. CE courses do not replace required certifications (CPR/BLS/ACLS/PALS). Keep those certifications current separately.
